Revolutionary Computer Forensic Software Company Becomes a Founding Partner with 10,000 Kids and the Crystal Darkness Methamphetamine Prevention Program

Vere Software has become a Founding Sponsor of 10,000Kids & The Crystal Darkness Campaign. Vere Software’s WebCase helps law enforcement make the Internet their regular beat as they use these powerful online investigative tools to stop Cyber Crime and stopping online identity theft will help to reduce the funding sources of methamphetamine crime.  First Lady Dawn Gibbons to kickoff the partnership with Pastor Troy Martinez April 28, 2008 in Henderson, NV.

(April 24, 2008 - Las Vegas, NEV)  Pastor Troy Martinez of 10,000Kids and Todd Shipley, CEO of Vere Software and a retired Reno, NV Detective Sergeant, have partnered together to stop the spread of the methamphetamine problem through the Crystal Darkness Campaign.  First Lady Dawn Gibbons and a number of Las Vegas law enforcement and public officials have scheduled April 28, 2008 for the kickoff of this valuable community partnership at 10,000 Kids in Henderson, Nevada.

“Methamphetamine addicts are using the Internet to commit identity theft and are now hacking personal computers to steal information,” said Shipley.  “Identity theft along with sophisticated phishing e-mail scams and selling stolen goods on auction sites like EBay are helping to finance their drug habits.”

10,000 Kids Director Troy Martinez is the Faith-Based Community Coordinator for the Southern Nevada Gang Task Force Prevention Subcommittee.

“We need more partners like Vere Software to step forward not only with capital but also with solutions to combat this Nevada epidemic,” said Martinez.  “Nevada is the 7th highest among methamphetamine admissions to treatment, with a rate three times the national average.  Nearly 12% of high school students in Washoe and Clark counties have used meth.”

“One of the logical first steps is to remove the source of financing for meth addicts,” added Shipley, “and that is where our new WebCase™ software can make a big difference by helping law enforcement investigate online crime.”

WebCase™ is a powerful tool for the online investigator and provides the three critical steps for Internet evidence:  collection, preservation and presentation.  With a user-friendly menu, investigators can easily manage, conduct, acquire and publish their Internet investigations.  The software is so unique it has received a provisional patent (applied for) status for WebCase™.  The evidence collected and presented will be legally defensible.
Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee that asked the Justice Department to investigate a link between ID theft and methamphetamine use. "The meth epidemic is creating a wave of identity theft," Cantwell says.
According to a government study, Nevada ranked among the worst states for Internet scams last year. The report by the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center found that the state ranked second in the nation per capita for perpetrators and fifth per capita for victims.  The report found that money lost in

Internet crimes hit a new record high last year, topping about $240 million.
Nevada Deputy Attorney General Ernest Figueroa attributes the state's ranking in part to its transient population.  He says pet and check scams, and auction frauds are common in Nevada.

Medical experts stated in a recent USA Today article that the paranoid, adrenaline-fueled culture of so-called speeders and the drug's effects make users likely candidates as ID thieves. Meth addicts can stay up for days performing menial tasks, such as testing the validity of credit card numbers on websites and buying/selling goods online.

"It's like an ant colony," says S. Alex Stalcup, medical director at the New Leaf Treatment Center in Northern California. He has toured several houses where tasks are divided among more than a dozen people. "From floor to ceiling, there are stolen goods such as PCs, digital cameras, household appliances and car parts," he says.
In a survey about the impact of meth use on local crime, more than a quarter of 500 county sheriff departments said it had contributed to a rise in ID theft, says the National Association of Counties, which represents county governments.  That increase has forced local authorities to beef up operations. Microsoft’s most recent Security Intelligence Report, a comprehensive analysis of the threat landscape, shows that attackers are increasingly targeting personal information to make a profit and are threatening to impact people’s privacy.

“As the security of the operating system improves, we are seeing cybercriminals becoming more sophisticated, diverse and targeted in their methods of stealing personal information,” Ben Fathi, corporate vice president of development for Microsoft said in a recent statement. “Personal information is the currency of crime, and malicious attackers are targeting it to make their cyber-attacks and other scams more authentic, credible and successful, and to make a profit.”

CyberCrime is on the increase.  WebCase™ provides investigative tools that help police and investigators worldwide battle cybercrime.  By supporting organizations like 10,000Kids, Crystal Darkness, and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), Vere Software is getting the word on this exciting software into the hands of law enforcement agencies to battle cyber crimes like cyber terrorism, identity theft and online child predators.
